Valchromat is a manufactured solid colour hardwood panel produced in Portugal. At first glance it would appear that is similar to MDF but there are several important differences. Valchromat is a much more dense material than MDF and is able to hold incredible detail when cut and carved. Unlike MDF, Valchromat does not dull your cutting edges in the same way as the material is not as abrasive and the glue acts as a lubricant for the cutting edges. The colour goes entirely through the material lending itself to a myriad of creative uses from furniture to architectural elements. We stock this material in several colours and in thicknesses of 8mm, 12mm and 19mm in 1220x2440mm sheets.
Valchromat is a hardwood based composite panel that machines like wood yet is dimensionally stable. On the surface, some small wood fibres are visible as not all of the fibres will absorb the organic dye. This peculiarity gives Valchromat it's unique and natural look. Because wood, it's main raw material has natural variations in its tonality, Valchromat can also show variations in colour.
